What are your opinions on energy system training. I know Coach Hines is real big on training these systems. I'm currently playing around with altering our program to focus more on training the specific energy systems that the majority of high school sports utilize (ATP/CP and Glyocolitic) rather than the specific movements of each sport. Right now we train kids to be athletes overall instead of sport specific improvement. My arguement is: Why not train athletes to use and replenish ATP/CP quickly, utilize glycolosis to produce moderate lengths of energy (ATP), and train to buffer and balance lactate production?

My focus most of the time is getting kids strong. My overwhelming opinion is that the specific sport will train the conditioning needed for that sport. Now thats not to say we don't do some lactate work at times during the week, but it is not my focus. This is where our strongman training has come in very handy. Our loads aren't maximal but the time under tension can become quite long and it has done wonders for our conditioning overall.
